9/11 Memorial - Part II - The Tree
An interesting part of the memorial was a tree that had survived 9/11. Here's a brief story:
Here is the tree when we were there -
"The callery pear tree became known as the Survivor Tree after sustaining extensive damage, but living through the September 11, 2001, terror attacks at the World Trade Center. In October 2001, the tree with lifeless limbs, snapped roots and blackened trunk was discovered and freed from the piles of smoldering rubble in the plaza of the World Trade Center. The tree was originally planted in the 1970s in the vicinity of buildings four and five in the WTC complex near Church Street."
To read the full story of when the tree was replanted at the site and to see it's photo at that time, click here. Here is the tree when we were there -
You can see it continues to be nursed back to health:

9/11 Memorial
Ryan and I were so excited and thankful to be able to take another trip to NY this fall with some good friends. Miraculously, we were able to get tickets to the 9/11 Memorial, thanks to my wonderful mother-in-law. It was extremely moving and powerful to be there so I thought I would share some photos from that morning. Since I have so many, I'll be dividing them into three posts - this is the first - The Pools
Beautiful trees, perfectly lined, in the middle of city high rises.
